The pages below provide a sample of convict lives (or significant portions of lives) that have been reconstructed using the Digital Panopticon website.

The Digital Panopticon contains millions of records relating to the lives of the 90,000 convicts sentenced to transportation, imprisonment or death at the Old Bailey between 1780 and 1913.

For more information on the historical context relating to these convicts lives, see the Historical Background pages.

For guidance on how to conduct your own research into convict lives and other subjects using the Digital Panopticon, see the Research and Teaching pages.
